These Ozark Trail markers were placed all around the country, or at least in
five different states, in the 20s when many automobile enthusiasts were pushing
for the improvement of American highways. They were placed in communities for
travelers on the trails to use to find out their distance from the next towns on
the route. All of the trails lead to or connected up with route that went to the
Ozark Mountains. Many of these routes have become federal highways today.
